History of All Saints

(i)            Founded on Nov. 1, 1893, All Saints Episcopal Church has worshipped on its present site on Park Avenue between Broad and Grand Avenues since 1896. All Saints became a parish in 1925.

(ii)           We are currently without a full-time Rector.

John Sposato and Annie Byerly are the current wardens.

(iii)            The Rev’d Norman Spicer, the fourth rector, served from 1951-1978. During his tenure the parish house, Davidson Hall, was built (1956) and the interior of the church was redesigned. A transept was added to provide space for the organ pipes.

(iv)            Davidson Hall was built especially for theater and concerts. The Leonia Players Guild had its home at All Saints from 1956-1988. The Leonia Second Sunday Chamber Musicians performs at All Saints each March.

(v)            Today All Saints has 100 members and an average Sunday attendance of 44. There is one service, which is virtual.  It streams live on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/AllSaintsLeonia/live/) or you can join on Zoom (https://zoom.us/j/93863498715?pwd=aDNOVnZacnNlY2VaNFJqTVllMHFtQT09)

(vi)            All Saints owns its own child care center in the facility, which can handle more than 70 children with a director and 19 teachers when fully utilized.  Under the current pandemic restrictions, we are only able to handle 25% capacity.

(vii)          The Open Door Korean Church currently shares the facilities with All Saints.

(viii)            All Saints lends Davidson Hall without fee to Leonia organizations. Each year, Congregation Adas Emuno, the Leonia House School Association and the Overpeck Park Volunteers have their annual fund-raising events at All Saints.

(ix)            All Saints is active in interfaith and ecumenical events in Leonia, including an interfaith Thanksgiving service, a Good Friday Walk and annual Church Women United Programs.

(x)            All Saints was the host to a District Confirmation in 2005.
