29. August, 2017Weekly Messages

A deadly storm has transformed Houston and the Gulf Coast and in only three days the lives of tens of thousands of people have been torn apart.  The photos are devastating, although a few show police officers, emergency workers, and ordinary citizens acting with great courage to rescue their fellow human beings.

Where is God during this storm?  One of the names for Jesus is Emmanuel or “God is with us.”  God is standing with us in mercy and compassion for all who suffer, for all who are grieving, for all who have lost their earthly possessions.

So, we do not lose God in the storm, nor do we lose heart.  We will see better days.

You will want to help those in need.  Please contribute through the website of Episcopal and Relief and Development, “The Hurricane Harvey Fund” (www.episcopalrelief.org).  Or donate through All Saints: make your check out to “All Saints” and write “Hurricane Harvey” on the memo line.

In addition, pray for those in need and for those who grieve and mourn, and for the rescuers.  The storm has transformed Houston but it need not lead to despair.

All Saints will worship Sunday, September 3 at 10 am.  Elizabeth Dorman and C. Paige Porter will be the musicians.

The coffee hour is potluck.  You may sign up to host a coffee hour by contacting the office.

Copies of Forward-Day-by-Day for August through October are available to you in the Guild Room this Sunday.

Please sell ads for the “A Fair in the Fall” journal and also solicit tricky-tray items.  A flyer for this purpose is attached to this message.

Lynne and I are away until Sunday, September 3.  The Rev’d Young Yoon is in charge of pastoral care assisted by the Rev’d Joyce McGirr and the Rev’d Joanne O’Neill.

The church office, and indeed the building itself, will be closed from noon on Wednesday through Labor Day.  Among other things, the Davidson Hall floor refinishing project will continue, so that Davidson Hall can not be used on Sunday morning.  The coffee hour will be held as usual in the Guild Room, be we must exit from the church and re-enter through the parking lot doors.

All Saints worships each Sunday at 10 am.  Please include worship in your weekend plans.

Homecoming Sunday is September 17!  Please RSVP on the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board or by email toparishadministrator@allsaintsleonia.com.
